An international jazz star is coming to Malvern this weekend.

John Hallam will be performing at Malvern Jazz, Blues and Swing Club on Sunday, April 3.

John became a freelance, professional musician in 1989, working alongside many of the finest musicians from both sides of the Atlantic – including American stars such as Clark Terry; Benny Carter; Al Grey and more recently Howard Alden and Randy Sandke.

Closer to home he has collaborated with top UK musicians Danny Moss; John Barnes; Roy Williams; Campbell Burnap; Mark Nightingale; Jack Emblow, Digby Fairweather and many others.

Work over these years has included recordings for Radio, Television, Jazz Workshops and Projects for Education.

A highly accomplished musician, John plays alto, soprano, tenor, baritone saxophones and clarinet.

For this session, John will be backed by the Graham Smith Quartet featuring guitar, piano, double bass & drums.

Graham is one of the most versatile swinging drummers on the scene, and the driving force behind the hugely successful Pershore Jazz Club and Festival.

Malvern Jazz, Blues & Swing Club first opened its doors in 1995 and its live music events are held monthly at the Cube in Albert Road North.

Organiser Len Thwaites said: “It’s been a while since we last featured John and we are delighted to have him with us again.

“He’s always been very popular at the club and we are really looking forward to a superb evening of mainstream jazz and blues.”

For this session at the Cube on Sunday 3rd April doors open at 7pm, the band will play from 8pm-10:30pm (including interval) and admission is £10 cash on the door.
