A SWAP shop event in Malvern saw the community get together to exchange items and support local charities.

Malvern Green Space held a "swap, don't shop" event on January 22.

People were invited to drop in and take home whatever they wanted for free.

Volunteer Alison Winters said: "We opened the doors at 11am to find a queue of people waiting to come in - obviously, the word has spread.

"A steady stream of people kept coming all day, bringing and taking all sorts of useful and unusual items – children’s clothes, toys and books; adult clothes including warm coats; someone even donated a set of golf clubs.

"With so many fantastic, good quality items being donated, there really was something for everyone.

"It seems that the free events are being embraced wholeheartedly by the local community."

Nothing from the swap shop is wasted - any items left at the end are given to local homeless charities or charity shops or saved for future events.

Malvern Green Space is part of a network of Climate Emergency Centres, a base for local environmental and community groups to come together and lend each other their support.

The next free event will be a Seed and Plant Swap at the Lyttleton Rooms, Church Street, Great Malvern from 10am until 3pm on February 26.
