A NUMBER of cases involving defendants from Malvern have been heard in the last month.

Simon Marriott appeared before magistrates in Worcester charged with non-payment of a fine.

This is in relation to a case from August this year, in which the 26 year-old was fined for assaulting another man in the town.

In that case, Marriott, of Worcester Road, Malvern, admitted the assault, which happened in the town on July 11 this year.

Marriott failed to pay his fine, so magistrates reconvened in Worcester on November 19 where they ordered him to pay.

The bench decided to give him extra time to pay his fine, which amounted to £230 for the assault.

Finally, a man who drove around Malvern without a rear number plate on his car was fined.

Lee Haile was caught in Somers Park Avenue driving a Skoda which had no rear plate attached.

The 42 year-old was found guilty via the single justice procedure, which allows the courts to prosecute people without them being present in court.

It is most commonly used in relation to driving offences like speeding.

Haile, of Victoria Road, Malvern, was fined £164 for the offence, which happened on May 8 this year.

The fine includes a £40 base fine, £34 victim surcharge and court costs of £90.
