THE former Tourist Information Centre in Upton High Street is set to be sold off.

Malvern Hills District Council wants to sell the building, number 4, High Street, with councillors set to debate it at tonight's Executive Committee meeting.

Council reports say the building comprises a ground floor shop, formerly occupied by the Tourist Information Centre, and has more recently, been let on a commercial lease providing a net income of around £3,700 per year

The upper floors are offices which have largely been empty for a number of years and will require "significant investment" to bring them up to a lettable standard.

Councillors meet tonight (November 23) to discuss giving the council's chief executive the green light to go ahead with the sale and agree terms with a buyer.

As the Property has been identified as an underperforming asset with no strategic value, GJS Dillon was appointed in August to market the property for sale with a guide price of £125,000.

A vote in early 2012 agreed for the TIC to move across the road to the Pepperpot to save between £20,000 and £37,000 in costs.

Despite some opposition, councillors agreed it should move and the building be leased out.

There have been ongoing discussions since then over its use, as well as proposals to turn it into a greengrocers' shop.

At the time of its closure, three possible options were discussed for its future.

These were offering it out as commercial premises, relocating it and staffing it with volunteers.
