A CAMPAIGN to transform a primary school playground in Malvern is one step closer to completion.

Nic Beresford-McMillan set up the campaign to help Great Malvern Primary School raise the final £20,000 it needs to complete the renovation of its school playground.

Since then, nearly £3,000 has been raised and fundraising is being ramped up.

Mrs McMillan shared an update on Facebook which said: "Just a little update, it’s been a month since I launched the the fundraising project to get all the children a brand new play area, ready to use hopefully in Summer 2022 if we can raise the money.

"So far we have £2,306 raised so still another £17.5k to go.

"Asda is going to put us on the green token scheme next year and I may have secured another £1,000 from somewhere else.

"Myself and Russell Petty have a meeting with Malvern Town FC to hopefully plan something fun for the kids."

Along with the ongoing fundraising events, people can go to www.gofundme.com/f/help-get-great-malvern-school-play-area-inclusive? to add their support.

For the last eight years, the school and its PTA have been attempting to improve the playground and in recent times, a stage and creative area, as well as gym equipment have been installed.

However, the cost of materials and labour has gone up as a result of the Covid pandemic, leaving Great Malvern Primary £20,000 short to be able to get a new play area and flooring installed by Easter 2022.

Mrs McMillan added: "The community seems to be really getting behind the school in this project and the money is slowly but surely going up.

"Thank you again to everyone - We have five months left to raise the rest of the money needed and finally get the school play area safe, new and inclusive to all.

"Keep going guys, we have got this. Teamwork makes the dream work."

The new playground is also designed to be more accessible to disabled pupils to allow them to play with their friends without having unsuitable facilities.
