SHOCKED neighbours have spoken about the terrifying moment armed police surrounded a home in Malvern.

The almost six-hour police stand off in The Glade ended with a 52-year-old man from the town being arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill.

Neighbours claim to have seen a crossbow and axes thrown out of a window of the property while others were told not to go in their gardens.

He was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital in a non-life changing condition following the incident on Tuesday (October 19).

After being discharged he was further arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

Norman Urbain, who lives opposite the house on The Glade, claimed a crossbow was thrown out of the property's window during the siege.

Mr Urbain claimed to have seen a crossbow and two axes thrown from a window of the house during the siege.

"Police have been at the house for two or three days on the trot.

"Today though I heard shouting and someone making a right din.

"I don't know exactly what happened to set it all off but police started piling up the street.

"There must have been about 30 police with guns.

"He was making a lot of noise but I couldn't make out what he was talking about but they were trying to talk to him."

Neighbour James Fulcher said police warned them not to go into the back garden of his home in Pound Bank which backs onto The Glade.

Malvern Gazette:

"When I got home about half an hour ago there was police who had cordoned off the road.

"They told us originally not to go in our back garden of the back of our house that backs onto The Glade.

"They didn't tell us why.

"It's affected my business J Fulcher Maintenance as I can't get to customers but I've still managed to do the best I could for them.

"I've lived here for 18 years and it has happened before."

People reported about ten police cars and vans in the area as well as around 30 police officers.

Police were called at around 12.25pm after receiving a report concerned for the welfare of a man at an address in The Glade, Malvern.

A cordon was placed at parts of Skyrrold Road and Moat Way which was lifted at just before 6.30pm.

Malvern Gazette:

Another resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said police were going door to door during an incident.

"They said "I'm sure you've seen the police going to all the doors" but I hadn't seen anything.

"They told us to stay indoors.

"I've only lived here for 11 months but it happens everywhere.

"I'm not frightened - if it's going to happen, it's going to happen."

West Mercia Police added that no other injuries were reported and enquiries are ongoing.

Rumours suggested that an incident with Platform Housing was the cause of the issue but the housing association has denied these claims.

"The incident at The Glade on 19/10 did not involve Platform Housing Group and did not relate to the tenancy there.

"Platform Property Care vans happened to be in the vicinity working on an empty home in another part of the street.

"We are working to support both the family involved and the wider community, to ensure they remain safe in their homes."
