PLANS to make Malvern carbon neutral will go before councillors this week.

At Tuesday's Malvern Hills District Council executive committee meeting, councillors will be asked to approve the 'Destination Zero'.

If approved, the council would allocate £250,000 to implement a number of carbon reduction measures.

These include:

£100,000 for community-led projects to help support the project's aims.

£75,000 for biodiversity and habitat support

£15,000 for biodiversity and habitat projects

£25,000 for wildflower verge management

£35,000 for encouraging low-carbon travel

The committee report said: "The DZF would directly support the delivery of the 'Our Environment' priority as identified within the council’s approved five-year plan, and in particular support leading the district to become carbon natural and improve the natural environment.

"Additional resources are required to increase the Council’s role in support of its environment and carbon reduction priorities and therefore £250,000 funding from the priorities budget is requested.

"The principle risk is that the targets contained within the council’s five year plan and destination zero will not be reached or there will be a delay in achieving them, particularly regarding carbon reduction and biodiversity goals."

Councillors will discuss the plans at 6pm on October 19.
