A MALVERN man assaulted a woman and smashed up her phone in an attack in the town.

Samuel Wykes, of Kinnersley Road, Malvern, attacked the woman on January 21 this year at an address in the town.

On the same day the 26 year-old also damaged a mobile phone belonging to his victim.

Wykes appeared before magistrates in Kidderminster on October 12 where he pleaded guilty to the two charges, one of assault and the other of criminal damage.

He had originally pleaded not guilty, but changed his plea on the date he appeared in court.

Magistrates handed Wykes a 12-month community order.

The order states he must carry out 250 hours of community service as well as 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

In addition, he was handed a restraining order banning him from entering Rye Street, Birtsmorton until October 11, 2023.

Chair of the bench David Shadwell also ordered Wykes to pay a victim surcharge of £95 and court costs of £620.
