Archery, origami and food from around the world were just some of the offerings at the multi-cultural picnic this weekend.

The event at Cripplegate Park on Sunday, September 19 gave guests the opportunity to sample food from countries across the globe as well as get involved with a number of activities.

The event was organised by Platform Housing Group as part of its Talk to Me Worcester campaign, which is being run in partnership with the City Council.

Tom Piotrowski, diversity and inclusion advisor at Platform, was delighted with how the afternoon went.

He said: “All guests and visitors loved the international flavours of food. We had a wonderful time together, with lots of laughter and conversations taking place all over the place.

"I think we actually had more people than expected.

“All sorts of communities came along, and everyone had fun.

“There was certainly the distinct feeling of not different ethnic groups mixing but also different ages, which was fantastic to see."

Last year the event was cancelled due to the pandemic but Mr Piotrowski is already planning for next year.

He added: “Can't wait to do it again and I'm sure other partners are. I know that us here at Platform Housing Group are keen on engaging with our customers, of whom many live in that area of Worcester, even more frequently.”

“Talk to Me Worcester is a programme of events and the beauty of it is that, as long as the event is about bringing people in Worcester through the power of dialogue, anyone can register their event with our website.”

Voices Unlimited Choir entertained picnic guests while several local charities were in attendance to raise awareness for their causes.

Yellow Scarf, an Evesham-based charity, runs various services for the area’s eastern European community.

Chief executive, Rafal Piekarczyk, said: “We are happy to have been able to contribute to the multi-cultural picnic.

“It is very important for all of us to have the opportunity to get to know each other.

“The picnic is a place where we could spend time together with many wonderful people.

“I am very happy that we can contribute to events like this, especially in this difficult time of a pandemic.”
