Emergency services had a hectic Friday night as they were called to two incidents on Worcester’s riverside.

Rescue teams first responded to a man who had jumped in the Severn before making the dash upriver, where a teenage boy was threatening to jump.

At 7pm on Friday September 17 Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to reports that a man had jumped in the River Severn near Diglis Dock Road, Worcester.

Three crews, one each from Malvern, Droitwich and Worcester, along with the Malvern Water First Responder team arrived at the scene shortly after they received the call.

A spokesperson of West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) confirmed that one ambulance, two paramedic officers, the Hazardous Area Response Tea, a Critical Care car from Worcester and specialist paramedics all also attended the scene.

Upon arrival the emergency service teams discovered that the man, in his 50s, had climbed out of the river himself.

WMAS confirmed that the man had non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for further assessment.

The crews were then redeployed to Grand Stand Road where a teenage boy was threatening to jump into the water.

The boy was taken into the care of the police who, along with WMAS, attended the incident.

The incident was closed at 21:34pm.
