FORMER Chase School student Emily Lewis just missed out on a place in the Olympic semi-finals of the K1 200m kayak event after a photo finish in Tokyo.

Despite securing a place in the quarter-finals following a fourth placed finish in her opening heat, Lewis was edged out by 0.005 of a second by Canadian Michelle Russell right on the line.

The former Worcester Canoe Club athlete stormed out of the blocks from the start and looked like she has done enough for a semi-final spot but Russell took it after a judges review following the tightest of finishes.

Fellow Brit Deborah Kerr won the race with a time of 42.272 and will represent Team GB in the semi-finals on Tuesday.

That is not it for 28-year-old Lewis, however, as she goes in the K1 500m on Wednesday morning, the heats at 1.30am BST.
