A NEW micropub could soon be opening in Malvern as part of new plans.

The micropub would open in the town’s Church Street taking over the building left empty by Mountain Warehouse when the store closed and relocated in November last year.

The shop has since been used as a showroom by the people behind nearby luxury care home Windsor Court who are due to leave next month.

The proposed opening times are 10am to midnight every day.

A total of eight jobs will be created if the plans are backed by Malvern Hills District Council.

The micropub will be run by Dean Cartwright who has previously founded Black Country based brewery Pig Iron Brewing Company and owned award-winning pub Weavers Real Ale House in Kidderminster.

A statement included with the application said the new micropub would have an ‘old fashioned community club’ feel and serve a range of ales, ciders and a wide selection of gins.

“The principle is to be a pleasant environment in which people can enjoy good craft ales, ciders, wines, a couple of high-end lagers and 40-plus gins,” it said.

“The vision is to create a ‘living room away from home’ where customers will receive excellent service and good quality beer.

“There will be no amplified music, the micropub will be dog-friendly, and the food menu will offer customers cobs to eat.

“If the applicant is able to make his vision a reality, he will give an old building a new lease of life, bringing it back into active use and making it part of Malvern’s bustling community life once more to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike for many years to come.”

“The change of use of this old building from retail to an up-to-date modern establishment meets the needs of shoppers, visitors and local people would enhance the street scene, the historic environment and economy of Malvern town.

“This development will provide permanent employment to 8 members of staff once opened and employment whilst the interior of the premises is being fitted out.”

The application can be viewed via the planning section of Malvern Hills District Council’s website.

The application number is 21/01226/CU.

Public consultation ends on August 20.
