A NEW winner has been crowned in the Malvern Friends of Priory Park photo competition.

This month's winner, chosen by Sue Rule from Dynastic Art, was Phil Blann for his photo of the moorhens, with Peter Dawson's dragonfly photo being picked in second place.

A special mention was also made for Tarquin Shaw-Young.

Mrs Rule said: "I found it really difficult to judge from these three shots.

"Each of them are both technically and aesthetically beautiful.

"Especially Peter’s, which presents so many problems when you are photographing something so fast moving but still capturing that sharpness and those iridescent colours, against such a soft background.

"But my winner for June summed up my quiet moments in the park during the last month – Phil Blann and his Moorhens.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed watching these mums and babies as l walk around the pond on the way to and from work or the gym.

"The composition, lighting, reflections and details captured - from the sharpness of the mothers eye and the water droplets on her plumage - are delightful.

"I know you shouldn’t place human characteristic onto animals but the stern look the mother is giving to her now slightly punk looking chick, as its feathers change, l think speaks for itself."
