THE Malvern mum left in temporary accommodation 15 miles from home is thanking her lucky stars.

Lucy Wiggett, 27, will need to arrange 30-mile round trips each day for her daughters to go to nursery over the next month having been relocated to Droitwich while her private rented flat is refurbished.

She has lost much of her personal possessions and those of her children but Miss Wiggett is simply grateful to be alive following the blaze in Watkins Way, Poolbrook on Sunday.

“It would have killed us, me and the kids,” she said.

“I am just so glad it did not happen in the middle of the night because we would not be here now.”

Miss Wiggett was at the park with her children – Ellie-Mae, who is about to turn four, three-year-old Maddison-Rose and Maisie-Leigh, who was born on Christmas Day 2020 – when a neighbour came to raise the alarm.

Pictures from the scene suggest the fire emanated from the cooker but Miss Wiggett said each of the controls for the hob had been turned off and that feedback from Hereford & Worcester Fire & Rescue Service had indicated no blame could be attributed to any party.

She said landlord, Allan Bradford, is hoping to have moved her and her family back in by June 1.

“He has been pulling out all the stops to get me back in there, to be fair to him he has been brilliant,” she added.

“I have a lot of support from my partner, family, friends and neighbours.

“Everyone has been storing stuff for me and I am doing alright, I have all the support I need.

“We are rotating it to get the girls across to nursery in Malvern.”

The fire service confirmed an investigation into the cause of the fire had been concluded but that details would need to be obtained through a freedom of information request in line with the service's policy.
