LIBERTY Powder Metals, the UK’s newest and unique producer of premium metal powders and alloys, has earned critical quality certifications that will enable the business to expand its reach in additive manufacturing and sell to customers across the aerospace, automotive, and industrial and engineering sectors.

The company’s atomiser, which opened last December at the Materials Processing Institute on Teesside, produces a range of premium stainless steel and nickel superalloy powders that enable 3D printing of precision components in a market already worth more than £2bn a year.

LIBERTY Powder Metals has been awarded two quality certifications.

EN 9100 is the internationally recognised Quality Management System for the aerospace industry while ISO 9001 is the equivalent system for general industry.

The certifications, which were awarded after extensive and rigorous audits of LIBERTY Powder Metals’ quality management system and internal operations, covers the manufacture, processing and testing of metallic alloy powders for near net shape and additive manufacturing applications.

LIBERTY Powder Metals’ General Manager Dr Simon Pike said: “Achieving these certifications for our Quality Management System highlights Liberty Powder Metals’ commitment, dedication and systematic approach to delivering best-in-class metal powders to support our advanced manufacturing customers.”

LIBERTY Powder Metals’ Commercial and Business Development Manager Dermot Desmond said: “These certifications confirm the quality of our world-class manufacturing processes and demonstrate our commitment to high-quality working practices.

"Achieving this against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic is testament to the dedication of all our staff and partners, enabling the business to push forward and start operating at full capacity.”

Liberty Powder Metals, which is part of sustainable industry leader GFG Alliance’s LIBERTY Steel Group, uses a vacuum induction argon gas atomiser to produce minute spherical powder particles.

The atomiser possesses a unique anti-satellite facility to increase productivity.

In addition to producing steel and nickel superalloys, LIBERTY Powder Metals is now using its first-class sieving, blending and optimisation facilities to process and supply aluminium and titanium powders to customers.

The LIBERTY Steel Group, is part of the GFG Alliance and a leading GREENSTEEL producer, it is a global integrated steel business bringing together assets across the steel supply chain, from production of liquid steel from raw and recycled materials through to high value precision engineered steels.
