West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has urged local people to support local retailers and food producers as they return to shopping in the coming weeks.
The MP visited the popular Clive’s Fruit Farm, in Upton-upon-Severn to pick up some locally-grown asparagus and other produce and show support for Worcestershire growers.
Nationally, up to £150 billion has been accumulated by people in savings over the last year and Mrs Baldwin urged people to spend locally to support businesses and stimulate the local economy.
She said: "National estimates show that some people have been able to save money during lockdown and it is essential that, as they start spending again, they commit to supporting local retailers and local food producers and help to re-start the economy.
"The growing season is underway with a fabulous range of local produce to enjoy and I welcomed the start of the asparagus season – on St Georges Day, but picking up a couple of bunches.
"The vaccination programme continues to make great progress with more and more people being asked to come forward and get a jab.
"This means that people can go out and shop with confidence and get back to doing the things we love."
