LEISURE centres across Worcestershire are opening their doors on Monday following the coronavirus lockdown, but not every service is available.

In Malvern, the newly-refurbished Malvern Splash is re-opening for the first time since the £2million work to revamp the complex.

isitors returning to the centre will be able to enjoy the new poolside area and brand new changing rooms.

Although the centre is open, indoor group exercise and certain other activities including group adult swimming lessons cannot be run.Instead, exercise in groups is being taken outside in the Winter Gardens.

On the Malvern Splash Facebook page, a post said: “Our fitness motivators will be offering a ‘Fit in 30’ format on weekday mornings and evenings (Monday to Thursday) and a ‘Friday Flex & Stretch’.

"There will be 20 spaces in each, bookable online or in-centre. The sessions will be equipment-free (except a stretch mat) and there is plenty of space to work within covid guidelines.

“The sessions have also been fully risk-assessed. Our website has full timetable details.

"In the event of inclement weather, a decision shall be taken each morning by 09.00am and participants contacted.

"Facebook will also be updated, so please do check our page if the weather looks iffy.”

The Malvern Splash has been closed since the first coronavirus lockdown while the extensive refurbishment, first announced in 2019, was carried out.

Pool users will now be able to benefit from fully refurbished changing rooms, dedicated disability changing facilities, additional family changing areas, a new flume, new interactive water play for younger swimmers, a new wave machine and a modern looking, revamped poolside area.

In addition, improvements have been made to improve the water quality through upgrades to the pool plant room, pumps and UV filter.

A number of energy efficiency features have also been put in place to help reduce the centre’s carbon footprint. These include LED lighting and improved glazing.

Elsewhere, Droitwich Lido is also preparing to welcome back visitors for the first time since the lockdown.

Although leisure centres and pools can re-open from April 12, the Lido is not opening for its summer season until May 1. I

n the meantime, outdoor classes similar to those at the Malvern Splash will be going ahead at the Leisure Centre.

Evesham Leisure Centre is re-opening on Monday and is offering family lane bookings.

In this system, a group can book an entire lane to make sure they keep social distancing up.
