A COUNCILLOR has shared worries that some members of the community are breaking lockdown rules, putting everyone in potential danger of Covid-19 infection.

A picture has emerged showing a group of teenagers playing football at the weekend at Perdiswell Park in the city, standing close together.

Current rules set by the Government allows for outdoor exercise in a public place, with members of your household or one other person, staying two metres apart at all times.

Councillor Marjory Bisset of St Stephen’s ward said: “I have noticed an increase in groups gathering during lockdown, from teenagers playing in the park in groups, to dog walkers meeting and walking together - it shouldn’t be happening.

“Everyone should be following the Government guidelines during the pandemic - the rules are there to keep us all safe and we need to get through this together.”

We reported in January this year of police having received multiple reports of golfers using the Ravenmeadow Golf Course, despite it being closed.

West Mercia Police say they are ‘out and about engaging and educating people’ and urge people to report any breaches to them via their website.

Superintendent Steph Brighton said: “We all have a responsibility to follow both the regulations and the guidance to protect the NHS and save lives. We are confident that the majority of people in Worcester will continue to act responsibly, respecting the rules and guidance and playing their part to keep communities safe and making a difference. We’re grateful to everyone who is working with us and complying with the regulations as we know it’s a very difficult time.

“We are out and about engaging and educating people, encouraging them to do the right thing to ensure we are doing our bit to prevent the spread of this deadly virus. If members of the public fail to do so or in instances where people are knowingly putting others at risk by flouting the law, we will use the powers available to us.”
