It’s veganuary, a national movement and challenge which inspires people to go vegan throughout the month of January.

There are many reasons for deciding to adopt a plant-based diet, whether it be a New Year’s challenge or a complete lifestyle change.

However, just because you are adopting plant-based diet doesn’t mean you have to go without your Saturday night takeaways.

Here are some fantastic vegan-friendly restaurants and takeaways in Bolton- all of which are delivering during the pandemic.

Earthlings, Bromley Cross

If you want to indulge in some delicious plant-based takeaway food, then Earthlings is a fantastic place to try.

It is the top rated vegan-friendly Bolton restaurant on Trip Advisor with an average 5/5 star rating.

One happy Trip Advisor user commented that it was a “dream place for vegans”.

Hilary Martin, co-owner of Earthlings spoke to the Bolton News.

Ms Martin said veganuary is a “good opportunity” to experience a range of vegan food explaining that adopting the lifestyle is easier than people might think.

She added: “All our food is organic, vegan and refined sugar free.

“We make everything in house and cater for vegans and also people on restricted diets or those wanting to eating clean. We focus on healthy vegan food that is tasty as well as nutritious.”

Their raw vegan Pad Thai is one of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, along with their salted caramel slice which is made from almonds, dates and raw chocolate is our number one best seller.

Casalingo Italian Restaurant

You can enjoy a taste of Italy in even on a vegan diet, as Casalingo Italian Restaurant operates a takeaway service in Bolton.

Joanne Riu, owner of the restaurant said they have a lot of fantastic vegan dishes up for grabs and also have a host of “wonderful and loyal” vegan customers.

She added: “As the majority of our dishes are prepared to order we can tweak them to most people’s dietary requirements.”

One of their most popular vegan dishes is their Tomato Garlic Bread and Pane Picante.


Ms Riu added: “Many of our vegan customers usually opt for a tomato or olive oil based sauce and we will usually create a dish to suit their pallet by adding our veg of the day, along with some of our home grown fresh herbs and spices.”

Royal Balti House, Farnworth

Bolton’s oldest Indian restaurant has kept up with the times and has a wide selection of vegan options to choose from.

So you don’t have to manually scroll through the menu and figure out which items on the menu you can and can’t eat, The Royal Balti House have an entire vegan menu for you to browse.

There are some delicious-looking items on the menu, including including a Vegetable and Daal Balti (mixed vegetable and lentils in a Balti sauce) a Mixed Vegetable Korma.

Vegans can also enjoy side dishes, such as Cauliflower Bhajis and chapatis.

Nurul Meah, manager at the Royal Balti House said: "The vegan market has substantially grown in the past few years and people are more conscientious of what they are eating and the ingredients which go into making the food.

"This is why we have made a vegan menu; we have our set regular customers who love our vegan curries."

He added that the Vegetable Masala and Mixed Vegetable Balti are among their most popular dishes.

Fancy tapas for dinner this veganuary? Tapaz Ristorante has a variety of vegan options on their takeaway menu.

Some of their most popular dishes include their famous paellas; their Vegetarian Paella (£12)is also suitable for vegans as it includes seasoned vegetables.

However, this isn’t the only vegetarian option on the menu.

Penne Napoli (pasta tossed in a flavoursome tomato sauce), mixed salad, and Patatas Bravas (fried potatoes in a Spanish sauce) are also some great options to consider.

26-year-old Kirsty Yates started Plant Pigs after realising the area was lacking in meat alternative take out options.

After this, Plant Pigs was born and operates from the kitchen at Bradshaw Cricket Club.

Ms Yates said: “The Plant Pigs menu is classic fast food style made from healthier meat and dairy alternatives.

“We hope to continue to grow and eventually open a place where customers can come and eat in once it is safe to do so.”

Meat-free burgers and pizza are available to purchase, along with sweet treats such as their vegan doughnuts.

If you live within a four mile radius of the Bradshaw Cricket Club, food can be delivered.

Alternatively, you can pick up food from the grounds themselves.
