THE recent spell of wintry weather continued in Worcester yesterday, with snow returning to the city.

A Met Office yellow warning for ice and snow remained in place from the previous day, and the late morning saw a return to Monday’s snowy weather.

A new warning was put in place later that day, with outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow set to move across parts of England, Wales and Scotland between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

Today (December 30) will be dry and bright for a while but cloud is going to increase from the west.

There is also a risk of patchy rain, sleet and hill snow in the late afternoon and evening.

Roads around Worcestershire remained largely undisrupted, following Monday’s closures and delays to travel.

Roads were closed across Worcestershire on Monday including the A38 from Martin Hussingtree to the Copcut, which was blocked due to lorries being stuck, as well as Hindlip Lane which was closed following the snowfall on Sunday night.

A crash also closed two lanes on the M5 southbound between J5 Droitwich and J6 Worcester on Monday afternoon, re-opening later in the day, and First Bus confirmed service 35 was unable to operate, while many other services faced delays.

Bin collections in Worcester have been rescheduled due to the snowfall, with this week’s scheduled collections now taking place in the first week of January.

A Worcester City Council spokesman said: “We apologise to residents for this inconvenience, especially as this coming Friday’s collections had already been rescheduled for Saturday, January 2.

“Residents who put their bin out for collection today are asked to take it back in.

“We will collect any side waste that people put out on January 4, when we do the catch-up collections.

“The Household Recycling Centres are open although residents are advised to check travel information before setting off.”
