AN articulated lorry has been recovered after it broke down on a Worcester road, blocking it in both directions.

Police closed Hylton Road in St John's, Worcester, after a lorry broke down at around 1pm today. Police cars were parked at the university campus end of Hylton Road and at the Tybridge Street end of the road to stop cars coming through.

How we first reported the incident

The lorry was at an angle with the cab facing the railway viaduct bridge and the trailer blocking Hylton Road in both directions.

Officers were allowing cars to turn both right and left from the junction at The Range, helping to direct traffic around the major obstacle, some Saturday shoppers gathering to watch in the car park.

By 2.30pm the Scania lorry was in the process of being recovered by Auto Support which had both a van and a tow truck at the scene.

An officer helping direct and manage the flow of traffic was asked what had happened to the lorry. He replied: "I'm a police officer not a mechanic. A lorry has broken down."

Congestion was caused as a result on other routes in the city including Henwick Road and Tybridge Street.
