A MALVERN company is working with one of the region's leading disability charities to help change attitudes towards disability in the workplace.

Melton Group, based in the town, is working with Leonard Cheshire to develop its "see the person, not the disability" culture.

This comes from being part of the Disability Confident Employer scheme, created by the government to change workplace attitudes and recruit more disabled people.

The Company has also recently donated £500 to a team of Leonard Cheshire fundraisers who, led by Sarah Grout, their Regional Fundraising Executive, successfully completed the virtual London Marathon last month.

Melanie Baker, founder and managing director of the Melton Group, said: "Our mantra to ‘see the person and not the disability’ is a core value that is shared by all the team at Melton.

"We started working with Leonard Cheshire at the beginning of the first pandemic lockdown in March, with the donation of hand sanitiser when resources were scarce.

"Later in the year Sarah’s amazing commitment to the virtual London Marathon really struck a chord with me on a personal level, so sponsoring Sarah’s Leonard Cheshire fundraising team was our way of saying ‘thank you’ to such a special charity.

"We are now working closely with Leonard Cheshire on achieving our Disability Confident Levels 2 and 3 as part of our HR commitment and current expansion plans.

"We are also delighted to continue our fundraising with Leonard Cheshire supporting their #ISeePurple disability awareness campaign on December 3."

Sarah Grout, regional fundraising executive at Leonard Cheshire, said: "It is an absolute pleasure working with Melton Group and we are immensely grateful for their donation and continued support of Leonard Cheshire.

"Melton Group is a progressive employer who already has exactly the right business mindset towards recruiting, retaining, and developing employees with disabilities and they are committed to doing so much more.

"I look forward to working with Melton Group more closely to help foster better disability awareness for all and to support the wider work of Leonard Cheshire."
