SIGNS showcasing the brands that will operate from a new service station between Pinvin and Wyre Piddle have whet the appetite of potential customers.

The 24-hour petrol station will feature a Sainsbury's shop, Greggs bakers and Starbucks coffee but the opening of the site is expected to be months away rather than weeks.

A worker at the site confirmed services such as water had yet to be connected, while work on a footpath must also be completed.

The new services caused concern when a split planning committee at Wychavon District Council gave the green light in August 2019.

Committee chairman Cllr David Wilkinson used his casting vote to give the plan the thumb’s up, supported by Cllr Tony Rowley who said it was not up to the planning committee to decide whether the petrol station was viable.

He said the major route was not “over-blessed” with petrol stations and supported the application.

Permission to build a new petrol station on the site had been granted by the district council in 2009 but plans never got off the ground.

Pinvin Parish Council and Wyre Piddle Parish Council both objected to the plan and said there was no need for a new petrol station.
