THIS stunning drone image captured by camera club member Christopher Murphy, shows Carrington Bridge in place.

The new bridge runs parallel to the existing A4440 and has been installed with the road fully open.

The work is part of the fourth and final phase of the scheme to fully dual the A4440 Southern Link Road from Junction 7 of the M5 to the Powick roundabout.

The frame for the main bridge was constructed in sections onsite before being lifted into place over a number of weeks.

The river between Upton and Diglis was closed to river traffic for safety reasons whilst the cranes are in use.

The huge steel girders, which are new to the UK but widely used across the rest of the world and are said to be more weather resistant, were delivered on October 10 with a police escort from the M5 to the site of the bridge.

Councillor Ken Pollock, cabinet member for economy infrastructure at Worcestershire County Council, said: “This is a big milestone.”
