MORE than 30 new coronavirus cases have been reported in Herefordshire by Public Health England today (Friday).

Some 31 new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in the county in the latest daily figures, which means the total number of people to have tested positive for coronavirus since March now stands at 1,311.

As of 9am on Friday, the total rose by 31 from 1,280 at the same time on Thursday. A total of 151 new cases have been reported since 9am last Friday.

The latest figures reveal when positive tests were carried out. On October 20, 35 tests came back showing the person had coronavirus.

This is the second-highest number of positive cases in one day since the start of the pandemic, and the highest since the Mathon farm outbreak in July.

The graph below shows the number of cases in Herefordshire by date of test, and not the day when the cases were published by PHE.

There can be a few days delay while waiting for tests results to be returned from laboratories.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 20,531 over the period, to 830,998.

Herefordshire's cases were among the 71,898 recorded across the West Midlands, a figure which rose by 2,180 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.

The number of patients who had died at the Wye Valley NHS Trust after testing positive for Covid-19 remains at 59. NHS England data shows as of 4pm on Thursday (October 22), no more deaths have been recorded.

The Government said a further 224 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19, as of Friday. This brings the UK total to 44,571.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies show there have now been 59,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate. This includes 131 in Herefordshire.

Separate Government figures show there were 6,518 Covid-19 patients in hospital in England on Friday, up from 4,647 a week ago, while 601 were in ventilation beds, up from 482 a week ago.

A total of 997 patients with confirmed Covid-19 were admitted to hospitals in England on Wednesday, the latest figure available, compared with 706 a week earlier.
