TRIBUTES have been paid in Upton upon Severn to a mother and three children who were killed in a tragic crash.

Zoe Powell, aged 29, and daughters Amelia, four, Phoebe, eight, and six-year-old son Simeon died in the crash on Monday (October 12) evening on the A40, near Oxford.

A JustGiving page for the father of the family, Josh Powell, has raised over £90,000 - well past its original target of £1,000.

The grandmother of the family, Laura Powell, shared on Upton Parish Notice Board Facebook page: “We are devastated at the loss of Zoe and our 3 grandchildren, Phoebe, Simeon and Amelia.

“No words can express how we feel. We are pleased that our son Josh and baby P are recovering physically. We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support. Sue and Kevin Powell.”

The fundraising started hours after the 30-year-old father and his 18-month-old daughter were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where they both remain in a stable condition.

The page, set up by Andrew Welsford, reads: “This is such a sad and tragic loss for a work colleague on the railway, whose family have been taken from him in a tragic car crash near Oxford.”

Referencing railway workers’ orange uniforms, it added: “Many people in the world of the Orange Army will know Josh and I hope will contribute to give him some financial support when he needs it later in recovery.”

The family were travelling on the A40 shortly before 10pm when their Subaru people carrier crashed with a heavy goods vehicle.

Thames Valley Police said Josh, who was a passenger, is seriously ill but stable in hospital along with the youngest child, Penny, who was also badly injured but survived.

The HGV driver, a 56-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and has co-operated fully with the investigation, officers said. There have been no arrests, and detectives have requested witnesses or those with dashcam footage to contact them.
