MALVERN TOWN RESERVES 3, GORNAL RESERVES 1

MALVERN Town Reserves welcomed Gornal to the Langland Stadium on Saturday and eventually ran out comfortable winners.

Rob Cullen created Malvern's first chance when throwing long for Anthony Burton, who flicked the ball towards Craig Selby and he saw his header tipped over the crossbar by visiting keeper Jake Hands.

Gornal's strength lay in their ability to counter-attack and when the ball was played downfield to Andrew Faraday, he was disappointed to hit the crossbar when through on goal.

Ten minutes later Sam Pallett chipped the ball through for Selby and this time the striker saw his well struck shot cleared off the line by a defender.

Once again Gornal counter-attacked with speed and Sam Woodhall fired over from the edge of the box.

Tom Crump delivered a corner with power and accuracy on 54 minutes and the ball crossed the line without an attacker or defending touching it.

Malvern brought on substitute Ed Lyons, who made an immediate impact, when bringing a Jamie Thomas free-kick under control, then firing home with a deflection off Cullen for 2-0.

Lyons had three chances in quick succession and on one occasion went for glory when a square ball to they unmarked Nick Burtoft, with the goal at his mercy, would have been the better option.

With seven minute remaining Gornal were finally rewarded when Joel Wood pulled a goal back for the visitors. In the dying minutes Burton sent Lyons away with a pin-point pass and he made no mistake driving home for 3-1.
