TRIBUTES have been paid to one of Malvern’s oldest residents, who has died at the age of 104.

Megan Oliver was born on February 29 1916 and this year, at 104, she celebrated her 26th ‘real’ birthday and was still living independently in her own home.

She moved to Malvern at the age of 71, having previously lived there during the war when her husband was working on RADAR.

Close friends and neighbours for more than 30 years Peter and Margaret Buchanan said: “Some would have thought this was a move to retirement, but Megan quickly became an active member of All Saints Church and was still producing rotas and leading a group in her home right up to the recent ‘lockdown’.

“It has been a real privilege to be a friend of this remarkable Christian lady who was a baby sitter and mentor for our children.”

After a short illness Megan died peacefully in her chair at the age of 104 years and 200 days.

A funeral service was held in Worcester earlier this week and it hoped to celebrate Megan’s life with a thanksgiving service at All Saints Malvern Wells & Wyche when circumstances allow larger numbers to gather.

Rev Dave Bruce said: “Megan was a very special member of our congregation who was still attending church and doing the prayer and reading rotas at 104!

“Megan was a very well-loved and inspirational member of our church who served right to the end and had a huge impact on the lives of many of our children and adults over the years. She will be sadly missed but her legacy will live on.”
