EVERY year group at Ladybridge High School has been impacted by covid cases.

Only Year Seven pupils are in school after the school was forced to shut bubbles after a number of positive coronavirus tests.

The Bolton News reported that pupils in Years Seven and 10 were told to self-isolate last week after pupils tested positive for the virus.

Year Seven returned to school yesterday after two weeks of being at home.

Since then Year Eight pupils were told to self-isolate at home and over the weekend two more young people tested positive for coronavirus.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Patrick Russell said: "I was informed that two more learners have tested positive for COVID-19.

"Both were tested this weekend and quickly received results. Despite the rapid turnaround in test and result, the fact remains that both learners were in school during a period of time that they will have been contagious.

"In line with government guidance, we are asking all learners in Years 9 and 11 to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

"Self-isolation can be limited to close contacts, rather than whole year groups, if the school is confident that there has been no wider mixing in the year group bubble. We are not confident that this is the case and, therefore, the whole year group needs to self-isolate. This is the last thing we want to do. However, it would be reckless to keep Years 9 and 11 in school when we know that both learners are with different classes for different subjects and have, therefore, been mixing widely with the rest of the year group bubble."

Years Eight and Nine and 11 will return to school on October 5, with Year 10 returning on Thursday.

Pupils at home will be taught remotely.

The letter concluded: "I know this situation is farcical and I wish it were not happening."

Schools throughout Bolton have been affected by positive coronavirus cases meaning pupils have had to self-isolate at home.
