CLIMATE activists from across Worcestershire are preparing for protests in Worcester this week.

Members of Extinction Rebellion are to hold two protests in the city this week.

The first, on Friday, will see the group put up flags and banners on bridges across the city with environmental messages.

This will be followed by a "die-in" in Worcester's Cathedral Plaza on Saturday morning.

In a newsletter, the group said: "We will be on the streets of Worcester City Centre to tell Worcestershire County Council to act now on Climate change.

"We will have multiple groups of six rebels taking to streets of city centre with an outreach person in each group.

"We will have three groups of 'Faceless Bureaucrats', a group dressed as bees, groups in normal attire as well as the guardians of earth."

The socially-distanced "die in" will be held from 12pm noon on Saturday and will see protestors lie on the floor to symbolise extinct species.

Extinction Rebellion has held a number of protests in Worcester.

Last year they brought rush-hour traffic to a standstill with a protest on Worcester Bridge.

The action saw cars queueing for several miles back through the city.

Earlier this year, members of Extinction Rebellion’s Worcester branch walked to the Guildhall with messages for city MP Robin Walker.

Elsewhere, in Malvern, members of XR Malvern Hills walked to the offices of West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin, also carrying signs and calling on Mrs Baldwin to lobby the government for more action.

Both MPs were in Westminster at the time, so missed the protests.
