CYCLISTS can take up a free MOT bike service at Himley Hall and Mary Stevens Park next week.

The Dr Bike sessions, run by Dudley Council’s road safety team and funded by Cycling UK allow borough residents to bring their bikes along for a free MOT, with minor repairs carried out free of charge.

The events will be held at Mary Stevens Park on Wednesday August 26 and Himley Hall on Thursday August 27.

Both sessions run from 9am to 3pm and people can turn up on the day or book in advance by calling 01384 815433 or sending an email to: road.safety@dudley.gov.uk.

Examination of the bikes and any repairs are free of charge and will be carried out by trained technicians.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environmental, highways and street services, said: "The Dr Bike sessions are always really popular and help people feel confident taking their bikes back out onto the road.

"With people being encouraged to travel by bike when they can, this is perfect timing. Our expert technicians will be on hand to give every bike a once over, undertake minor repairs and offer advice on bike maintenance and road safety."

The Dr Bike sessions will follow government social distancing rules, with cleansing areas, ensuring bikes received and returned are wiped clean as appropriate.
