A WORLD-famous American singer-songwriter has included a bonus track dedicated to the Lake District on her new album.

Taylor Swift has travelled across the globe, performing to packed audiences and selling millions of albums and singles worldwide.

But it appears she retains a special place in her heart for the Lake District, where she was snapped on a visit to Bowness with then-boyfriend Harry Styles in 2012.

Her latest album ‘Folklore’ - released with almost no prior publicity - contains a bonus track entitled ‘The Lakes’, with the emotive lyrics referencing the place where ‘all the poets went to die’ and the ‘Windermere peaks’ looking like a ‘perfect place to cry’.

Gill Haigh, managing director of Cumbria Tourism, described Swift as a ‘fantastic performer’ and said those familiar with her career would ‘know that her style is as diverse as the opportunities offered by The Lake District, Cumbria, itself.’

“Am I surprised she chose to sing about Windermere? Yes and no,” said Ms Haigh.

“Taylor is obviously a very well-travelled singer and I’m sure she will have been inspired by countless places, but we’re thrilled that Windermere made such an impression.

“We know she was here a few years ago and we very much hope to welcome her back in the future.

“The song is as relaxing as the national park itself and I’m sure the recognition will be warmly received by everyone who shares her views.”

Reaction to the song on social media appeared to be very positive too, with many people saying they liked it.

On Twitter, Rowan Birkett said: “Sitting in the Lakes as a local, listening to bonus song ‘The Lakes’ and realising that the song is actually about the Lake District, not just lakes in general.

“I’m so excited, elated even. Love this album.”

Another fan simply said: “Taylor Swift you amaze me.”

The track is available on the deluxe CD, deluxe vinyl and cassette editions of Folklore.
