A NETHERTON man has been jailed for 16 weeks for assaulting a police officer and making a threat to kill, among other offences.

Andrew Bloomer, of Tewksbury Drive, admitted assaulting a police officer acting in the exercise of his functions as such a worker on May 18.

Appearing at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on August 12, the 34-year-old also pleaded guilty to causing £200 worth of unlawful damage to a police cell by smearing blood and ripping a mattress on July 20.

Bloomer also admitted making a threat to kill another person and causing unlawful damage to a people carrier, both on August 10.

He was handed a 16 week jail term due to a ‘flagrant disregard for court orders’ and was also ordered to pay a £128 surcharge.

Also in court last week, a Cradley Heath man was ordered to pay more than £700 in compensation after causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage to Haden Hill Leisure Centre.

Adam Ali, of Grange Road, pleaded guilty to causing unlawful damage to a glass door at the centre, causing £713 worth of damage.

The 20-year-old admitted the offence at Dudley Magistrates Court on August 14 where he was ordered to pay £713 in compensation.

Over at Wolverhampton Magistrate's Court, an Oldbury man was handed a 16 week prison term, suspended for 24 months, after admitting an assault.

Stephen Gibson, of Badsey Road, admitted assaulting a woman by beating at a court hearing on August 12.

Along with the suspended sentence, magistrates handed the 27-year-old a restraining order and he was also ordered to pay £150 in compensation.
