AN RNLI volunteer has refused to let lockdown stop her walking from land’s End to John O’Groats.
Since the beginning of June, while the Rhyl Lifeboat Station shop has been closed, worker Deb Blackburne has been on the path to completing the 1,083 mile journey to raise money for the life saving charity.
Despite living with chronic spinal condition Syringomyelia, and working around her other job as a dispatcher at Glan Clwyd hospital, Deb completed 160 miles in the first month at five miles per day.
Deb, whose family have volunteered with the RNLI since the 1800s, said: “I have chronic pain constantly and it affects my whole body in a variety of ways. Mine is caused by a complex brain abnormality known as a Chiari malformation. But Government restriction at the shop have effected fundraising for the year, and I want to help a different way than I normally do.”
