CYCLISTS will have their chance of keeping their trusty steeds safe from thieves by attending a series of bike marking events, as the number of thefts have increased during lockdown.
Malvern Hills and Wychavon District Councils are offering the free service as their response to deter would-be thieves.
Cllr Tom Wells, portfolio holder for community services at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “With more people in the community taking up bike riding during lockdown, it is so important that they take the measures to protect their bikes from thieves.
“The sessions will be safe to attend and social distancing will be in place at all times.”
Bike marking is a method consisting of applying a unique identifiable number to the frame of the bike, which is then registered with the National Bike Register Database.
This reduces the risk of a bike being stolen and if stolen, it makes it easier to report and find it again.

Cllr Rob Adams, portfolio holder for community engagement, culture and sport at Wychavon District Council, said: “These free bike marking events will give residents peace of mind that if their property is ever stolen or lost, there is a greater chance of being reunited.”
The free events will be held later in the month in Droitwich, Pershore, Malvern, Great Witley and Evesham, from June 22 onwards.
