MALVERN residents are being encouraged to put on their running shoes and get active this summer.

Launching on June 8, Couch to 5K and Walk Fit programmes are being provided by Malvern Hills District Council to improve wellbeing during the coronavirus crisis.

The course Couch to 5K course aims to help build running confidence, stamina, fitness and well-being as well as being a social activity.

Walk Fit is an interval based eight week power walking programme which is ideal for complete beginners. Participants will be encouraged to take three walks per week.

Both programmes will be fully supported by MHDC’s physical activity and wellbeing officer, Rachel Nicholls, who will provide support and advice through video tutorials on YouTube.

There will also be an opportunity to catch up with other participants via Zoom.

Rachel Nicholls said: "We received a positive response to our first virtual Couch to 5km and Walk Fit programmes so I am very pleased to provide this opportunity again.

"It is so important to look after your health and wellbeing, especially in the current situation, and we hope people get involved."
