GARDENS in Welshampton and across north Shropshire will be opening as part of the National Garden Scheme (NGS), following lifting of restrictions.

Gardens across Shropshire will be open to the public from this week, but with restrictions in place, per each garden that is opening to help raise funds for a number of charities.

However, most gardens around Oswestry – such as Hope House in Morda – will open for visitors in July, with the hospice gardens opening on Sunday, July 12 from 12noon until 6pm.

It will cost £5 for adults but children can go free, with attractions such as a teenage garden with places to lounge and enjoy the sound of water; a collection of silver birches and other specimen trees.

It will be pre-booked but you can book your tickets on Monday, July 6 prior to the open day.

Other gardens opening in the area include Holly House in Welshampton, which is open on Sunday, July 19 from 11am until 5pm, while the Hollies, also in Welshampton, will open on the same day.

However, Oswestry Gatacre Allotments' sessions in June and July remain cancelled.

Ruth Dinsdale, from NGS in Shropshire, said: "The NGS is delighted to announce that gardens will start to open as from the first week of June.

"Following government advice and alongside other bodies such as the Royal Horticultural Society and National Trust, we have devised a safe way for our garden owners and visitors alike to enjoy a visit to our gardens and raise money for nursing charities.

"You will be able to visit a garden in your area by booking a pre-paid time slot for a visit on the NGS website, so no money will be payable at the gate, although we're hoping some of our gardens will have plants and other items for sale on a cash basis.

"Sadly, until further notice we will not be able to offer refreshments or toilet facilities at gardens, however, we will be encouraging our garden owners to allow picnics if space permits."
