THIS year’s Worcestershire Pride has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus.

Pride which was set to take place on September 19 in the city has been cancelled following the loss of essential funding due to the Coronavirus pandemic and rules on gatherings.

After a successful Worcestershire Pride 2019, the committee were gearing up to host its fourth LGBT+ Pride festival this September.

Chairman Mathew Skilbeck said: “We are absolutely heartbroken to say that we will have to postpone Worcestershire Pride until 2021.

“The event has a huge impact on lots of people’s lives including Pride goers, our acts and businesses that we feature, so it’s not a decision that we’re taking lightly.

“Our team have been working incredibly hard to see if we can make the event work, but sadly, with the effects of Coronavirus on funding and current rules on gatherings, the event just can’t go ahead this year.

“We’ll be back bigger and better in 2021 and have some fantastic ideas up our sleeves.”

The Pride team will be hosting a Virtual Pride Party on September 19 when Pride was due to take place to ensure that Pride fans don’t miss out completely this year.

Planning is underway for Pride 2021 which will be held on September 18, in 2021.
