A WORCESTER group has banded together to sew laundry bags, masks and headbands for frontline care workers and NHS staff

The Facebook group called 'Worcester Heroes banded 2gteher' was first set up by Jack Bailey last month and since then has provided the much needed kit to hospitals, care homes and medical units across the county.

Malvern Gazette:

Mr Bailey said: "We set it up in response to a plea from one of the nurses in the hospital.

"She was struggling to get the basic items like wipes and hand gels, we felt like we had to do something to help.

The group started with fifteen dedicated members who spent hours sewing and delivering much needed supplies to frontline staff. They have now got four teams working across Worcestershire.

Mr Bailey continued: "It’s going extremely well. A village in Defford and Besford have recently donated 300 hand made wash-bags as well as items like hand creams, shampoo and conditioner.

Malvern Gazette:

"We are a team of about 35 now made up of collectors, distributors and our lovely sewing ladies who are all busy at work sewing everyday and night for us!

"All together it’s been absolutely incredible and the response we had from the public has been overwhelming."

The team are still looking for donations as the project is purely funded by the public and demand for the bags are high.

Malvern Gazette:

Mr Bailey added: "We are collecting pillowcases and bedding for the bags and any fabric, offcuts, elastic and buttons for the headbands!

"We are also trying to fill the bags with a few little gifts for the workers eg .hand cream, hand wash, homemade soaps and any other toiletries.

"We are experiencing a bit of a shortage for items inside the bags, especially toiletries for men.

"All together it’s been absolutely incredible, we are so grateful, the response we had from the public has been overwhelming."
