A Worcester family have been cooking homemade meals to give to NHS workers on the Coronavirus frontline at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Haris Saleem, chairman of the Worcester Muslim Welfare Association, and his wife Yasmin Haris have been spending their mornings cooking up dishes and have so far given 50 rice boxes to hospital staff.

Proud daughter, 25-year -old Hinna Haris said: “Mum and dad would say no matter what religion culture or background we all bleed the same and these are the times we should come together and help each other.”

The family from St. Peters in Worcester want to encourage others in the community to do something positive to help others.

Hinna Haris said:” My parents spend each morning selflessly cooking to feed the fantastic NHS staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital

“I saw some posts from my friend who works there and how hard she has been working so we decided to make food for them and will be making food every week for different key workers.

“We don’t believe in getting publicity as we did it with a good heart but, during this pandemic, I think we should encourage communities to come together and bring positivity and show appreciation to our heroes.

“We made a total of 50 rice boxes which is veggie and vegan as we didn’t want anyone left out so tried to cater for everyone.”

The food is delivered to the nurses, via a family friend who works at the hospital, and next week the family are going to be providing food to the A&E department and the paramedics.

Miss Haris continued: “My mum, Yasmin, is known for her amazing cooking. She often gives food to the homeless and St Pauls hostel on Tallow Hill.

“She also makes food for the police staff where my sister works. She is an amazing woman. Her and my dad pay for everything from their own pockets.

“My sisters and I are so very proud of them both.”
