THE winner of a competition to find the best memories of a former convent in Malvern has been invited to open a new show home.
John Shipman won the competition, run in our sister title the Malvern Gazette, for his memory of hosting a lunch for Swedish students Birgitta and Berit in 1974.
As a result, he was invited by Broadway Heritage to open the first detached show home on the former site, which closed in 1989.
The company have just converted the Grade Two listed building into stylish apartments and are now busy completing fourteen new homes in the grounds.
He said: "It was a great surprise but I was delighted to accept the invitation."
Broadway Heritage managing director Michael Hodges, who also presented John with a bottle of Champagne, said he had been thrilled to hear his wonderful family story which so neatly linked the past with the present.
