A BOXING session will be held in a bid to raise funds to support a local schoolboy who is facing a “life or death” battle with leukaemia.

Oscar Saxelby-Lee, aged five, had a stem cell transplant in May after being diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

After briefly being cancer free, the leukaemia has returned, and the family have desperately launched an appeal to raise money for Oscar to undergo either a second stem cell transplant or start a new trial called CAR-T in Singapore.

Both options are not available on the NHS therefore £500,000 needs to be raised for his treatment.

Boxing coaches Shawn Lacroix, Darryl Swallow and Michael Mooney have organised a fitness session which will contribute towards the fundraising campaign for Oscar’s treatment. The session will consist of boxing combinations and various cardiovascular exercises. A raffle will also take place at £2 per strip with various prizes up for grabs from local fitness gyms and the community.

The event will be held at the Tolly Hub, in Rowan Avenue and will cost £5 to take part and a donation bucket will also be at the club. The session will begin at 8.30pm today (September 25).

Mr Lacroix, from Worcester said: “We want to help the young Worcester warrior with as much chance as we can. And if we can make the slightest difference in helping his fight then we will. In our eyes he is tougher than anyone we’ve ever seen get in that ring and is a massive inspiration.”

Mum Olivia Saxelby said: “This is life or death for us. Unfortunately, we’re now in a predicament where his life has a price to pay.”
