VANDALS who daubed graffiti on a children's playground in Malvern have been dubbed "morons" by a town councillor.

The graffiti, including swastikas and obscene images, appeared on the safety surface and on apparatus at the play area at Craeg Lea, off Bluebell Close, Barnards Green over the weekend.

Paul Bennett, who represents the Pickersleigh ward on Malvern Hills District Council, was alerted to the graffiti over the weekend by residents who described it as "offensive".

He in turn got in touch with Malvern Town Council, which owns the play area, which he descried as an "important oasis for kids".

He said: "Surely even the morons who did this must realise that money fixing this will be wasted and there will now be less to spend on improving or increasing facilities in our patch?

"I would ask everyone who visits or overlooks Craeg Lea to let the police know about any suspicious behaviour going forward.

"I would like to point out that this is not a simple job as some of the special surfaces in the play area are not simple to repair and damage may be very expensive to make good."
