COUNCILLORS will decide whether to approve a bid to serve alcohol at a village venue at a meeting on Monday.

An application has been submitted to Bradford Council to allow alcohol to be served at Denholme Mechanics Institute.

Lauren Tordoff has applied for a licence to serve alcohol to be drunk in the building between 5pm and 11pm on Monday to Thursday, from 2pm to 11pm on Friday and from 1pm to 11pm on weekends.

It will apply to a function room in the building.

Annual North Parade Street Party can continue following successful licensing review

The Council's District Licensing Panel will decide whether to grant the licence at a meeting in City Hall on Monday at 1.30pm.

Three people have written to the Council raising concerns about the plans, including the fact that children's clubs are regularly run from the building. Others raise safety fears from allowing people to drink in the building.

However, the Chair of the Denholme Mechanics Institute Community Centre has also written to the Council supporting the plans, saying Miss Tordoff has operated from the venue without incident so far, and adding: "We believe there are many people in the village who support the development of this business."

The centre is one of the main community hub's in the village, and is a meeting place for numerous organisations.
