LAST season may have only just finished but Droitwich Spa already know one of their opponents in the quest for silverware in 2019-20.

The West Midlands (Regional) League Division One outfit will host FC Darlaston in the preliminary round of the 100th Smedley Crooke Memorial Cup.

It is a knock-out cup competition affiliated to Worcestershire FA first competed for in 1919 and won by Rubery St. Chads.

The trophy was donated by the late Sir Smedley Crooke MP and dedicated to the memory of the local sportsmen lost in World War I.

The competition currently invites entries from football clubs in the Birmingham and Worcestershire area, predominantly from the Midland Football Combination and West Midlands (Regional) Football League.

It currently raises money for local charities including Midland Air Ambulance, Primrose Hospice, Friends of Princess of Wales Community Hospital and Mercia Accident Rescue Service.

Sir John Smedley Crooke (1861-1951) was a Conservative MP for Birmingham Deritend from 1922-29 and then from 1931-45.

The cup was won by Malvern Town last season, overcoming a two-goal deficit to beat higher-ranked Lye Town 3-2 in the final at Alvechurch last month.
