A COMMEMORATIVE plaque to celebrate the achievements of a young woman with a learning disability has been unveiled at the Cube in Malvern.
The plaque is in recognition of the hard work of Rachel Barrett, who has won a Respectability Award for her work with the Worcestershire Transforming
Care Partnership and the self-advocacy group, Speakeasy NOW.
Helen Gill, The RespectAbility Project coordinator said: "Rachel helps to change services in a way that will make a real difference to the lives of children, young people and adults with a learning disability and/or autism, who display behaviour that challenges, including those with a mental health conditions.”
The plaque was unveiled on Friday by The High Sheriff of Worcestershire, Edward Holloway, and will be permanently on display at the Cube.
The unveiling took place during a reception at the Cube, attended by VIPs, colleagues and friends of Rachel's.
Karen Humphries, a trustee of Malvern Cube, said, “We will be delighted to host Rachel’s plaque at Malvern Cube. We are an accessible, inclusive and diverse community centre and are happy to celebrate and share Rachel’s achievements."
The RespectAbility Project celebrates the achievements of people with
learning disabilities from Worcestershire in fields including local government, art, fund-raising, sport, leadership, independence and employment.
