RESIDENTS of Colwall will be turning out once again for the annual wassail, which this year in on Saturday, January 19.
The ancient ceremony is intended to wake up the village's fruit trees to ensure they bear fruit abundantly in the harvest to come.
Participants will be meeting in the centre of the village at 5.30pm, when the Old Meg Morris Dancers will entertain.
This will be followed by a torchlit procession, led by the evening's master of ceremonies, known as the Butler, and musicians.
The procession will make its way to the village orchard, where the Butler, disguised to ensure he is not identified, leads the ceremony to awaken the trees.
This will be followed by singing around the bonfire, a pig roast and veggie pasties and a bar serving mulled cider.
