SOCIETY should do more to celebrate the contribution of the public sector, says Chase head Mike Fieldhouse.

He was speaking at the school's prize giving, where the guest speaker was Dr Rebekah Caseley, a former Chase student who is now an accident-and-emergency doctor.

Mr Fieldhouse, said: "One of my main reasons for asking Becky to be our guest speaker this year is to acknowledge the sterling and vitally important work that many of our former students carry out within the public services sector.

"Doctors, nurses, teachers, armed service personnel, emergency service workers and many more are our real unsung heroes in society, and we should be doing more to celebrate their work.

"I am really proud that as a teacher and educationalist, I have played a small part in the development of somebody like Becky, who is now helping to save people’s lives. I think that this is the greatest job satisfaction that one could wish for."

Mrs Fieldhouse spoke of the school's successes in 2017/18, which included outstanding exam results at GCSE and A-Level.

He said: "I cannot praise all of our students enough for all of their hard work and efforts in bringing about this success.

"Not only was I delighted for the students but for the staff - a real testament and reflection of all of their hard work, dedication and commitment through what are currently tough times in education."
