BARNARDS Green will be the centre of seasonal attractions on Saturday, December 1, with not one but two events to celebrate the coming of Christmas.

Barnards Green traders are holding their annual Christmas extravaganza between 10am and 1pm, and later that day, there will be charity carols with donkeys at the Bluebell Inn.

The extravaganza will kick off with Father Christmas arriving with his elves in a double-decker London bus, before taking present requests in his grotto at T P Travel.

There will be unicorns which children can sit on and be photographed, entertainment from Magic Russ and Dave the Wonder Dog, Christmas lantern-making, vintage vehicles and a chance to meet Marshall and Skye from Paw Patrol.

Barnards Green Traders Association hosts this event every year to say thank-you to the local community that supports them.

This year they are fundraising for the Sunshine Children's Centre, particularly the Saturdads Club which is an opportunity for dads and male carers to have fun and get active with their tots.

Jane Knowles, owner of Just So and chair of the traders, said: "Over the last ten years, this small group of local traders and independent businesses has raised over £16,000 for charities and good causes. This is an amazing result and really illustrates the point that independent businesses are the lifeblood of their local communities. If you shop local, the money stays local and communities survive and thrive."

And when it's over, why not head to the Bluebell Inn in Guarlford Road, to meet Malvern’s favourite donkeys Daisy and Bluebell?

Starting at 1.30pm, it will feature Rev Sheila Simmonds performing a traditional flamenco dance, magic tricks with nine-year-old Grace Giudicotti-Poplawska and Thomas Coombes, aged 16, and Rev Val Needham and her donkey procession team singing carols and gospel.

To mark this year as the centenary of the end of World War One, poet and troubadour Ian Woodcock will perform his poem To An Unsung Hero.

And there will be a raffle with proceeds going to the Penny Ha'Penny Horse and Pony Rescue Centre.
