A PUPIL at the Downs School in Colwall is enjoying continuing skiing success.

Alice Bond, a pupil in the school's Year 4, last month successfully retained her title of Welsh Champion for yet another year and, since then, she has taken more trophies in to school.

In the past four weeks, she has competed in Edinburgh, Manchester, Milton Keynes and Dublin.

In Edinburgh, she won the British Under 10 Championships, beating boys and girls, and finished third in the Under 12 category.

In Manchester, she won the Ambition Club national slalom and giant slalom races.

The next day, Alice went to Milton Keynes and won the British Independent Schools’ Championships, finishing as the first U10 in the boys’ and girls’ category and finishing fifth overall out of all the girls and boys in the Prep Schools’ category (U14).

Finally, in Dublin, she won the Irish International Championship and then the Irish National championships. This means that she has now won the major Championships in all four home nations.

Head Alastair Cook said: “Alice’s skiing successes continue to amaze us all here at school and we wish her all the very best during her training in Austria.”

Now that this year’s artificial and indoor skiing races have come to an end, she has travelled to Austria for two weeks of pre-season training on the glacier.
